Creating change and smart working methods in Telemark

The competition for investments, talent, visitors and public resources is no doubt intensifying between Nordic regions – and the winners have been the capitals and other urban centres.
This is the backdrop against which the Norwegian region Telemark decided to launch the Regional Development process “Working smarter together”. The process focuses on innovating how different regional stakeholders can out-smart the competition with smarter collaboration in the future – and secure growth and opportunities for both its current and future residents and companies.
We at Future Place Leadership have had the honour to help guide and lead this process – and it has been a truly inspiring journey so far, with more than 30 dedicated participants who are determined to change the future of their region. We have piloted the use of Design Thinking in a regional place development context as a method to promote creativity, innovation and involvement in the area.
We have had three workshops since mid 2019. At the third project workshop in Bø in Telemark we have created the embryos to a manifest for working smarter together.
